- One in every three deaths caused by cancer is due to Lung Cancer. This goes for every ethnic group across the board. - More people are diagnosed with Lung Cancer than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, and melanoma cancers combined. - Three times as many men are diagnosed with Lung Cancer as are with prostate cancer. - Twice as many women are diagnosed with Lung Cancer as are with breast cancer. - Around 437 people are diagnosed with Lung Cancer each day. - Of new cases diagnosed over sixty percent have never smoked or stopped smoking decades ago. - One in five women and one in twelve men have never smoked in new Lung Cancer cases. - Only thirty-five percent are current smokers. - Only sixteen percent are diagnosed at the earliest stages. - Over fifty percent of new cases are already metastasized. - In 1971 the five year survival rate for Lung Cancer was 13.2%. Forty years later it has only risen to 16%. |
